`The Next Move formed in the spring of 1985 at Clemson University. With such a long tenure during the essential 80’s, TNM cut their musical teeth on songs from REM, INXS, The Fixx, The Producers, Journey, The Outfield, U2, and other popular bands of the 80s and 90s. The band quickly became a mainstay on the college and club circuits and a top draw at venues across the Southeast. During this time, they released two tapes and one full length CD of originals and opened for a number of national bands – the Psychedelic Furs, the Producers, The Connells, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Smithereens, Cheap Trick, and Widespread Panic to name a few. Bobby Ross has said that no band sold more tickets at the Jammer in the early 90s than The Next Move. At the end of 1993, the band decided to call it quits and played its last gig on New Year’s Eve that year. Jimbo Chapman and Rick Reames went on to start Cravin’ Melon and found success with that band signing with Mercury Records in 1996. The Next Move played a couple shows per year over the next decade but then took a 15-year hiatus until returning in February 2020 for a reunion show. Other shows were quickly derailed because of Covid but the band started back in July of 2021. The May 21st show will be their first time at the Windjammer in 23 years. Close your eyes and you’re at the Jammer in 1991 – This is going to be a great night of music!
