Teddy Bear Picnic

Children and families are invited to come to Hampton Park on March 1st for the 11th annual Teddy Bear Picnic. The picnic is set out to encourage families to unplug and enjoy a fun-filled day together with entertainment, food and games! You can stop by the Panera tent for free cooking decoration, bring your injured teddy bears to get patched up at the Teddy Bear ER with the help of its sponsor MUSC Children's Health, or even get your bear's teeth checked with the Coastal Kids Dentistry! Families in the Charleston area can come out and enjoy a picnic in the field while listening to John Cusatis along with a performance by the Watoto Ensemble from Meeting Street Academy.

This is an event your children won't forget! Other activities include Beary CrossFit with CrossFit Charleston, a scavenger hunt, storytime with Parker Bear hosted by Begin With Books, Kidding Around Yoga, and a tea party under the oaks. The Lady Bug Lady and her car Ms. Lulu will have ladybugs, and the City of Charleston Recreation Environmental Education will bring reptiles. Kickin’ Chicken and King of Pops will also have food available for purchase. The event encourages you to bring picnic lunches, blankets, chairs or anything that will make your picnic more enjoyable.

In 2017, volunteer Park Angels wrote a children’s book based on the Teddy Bear Picnic, “Here, There and Everywhere with Parker Bear.” Photographed by Charleston photographer Libby Williams, "the book chronicles the adventures of Parker Bear as he visits 10 city parks before meeting his friends at Hampton Park for the annual Teddy Bear Picnic". See the book here, which will also be available for purchase at the event!
