Prohibition for a Cause

The second annual East Cooper Speakeasy –– Prohibition for a Cause hosted by the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club will be held Saturday, October 21st, and organizers are looking forward to opening the doors to more guests who want to show their support and help raise funds for some worthy charities.

The event will be held from 7-11 p.m. on October 21st at the Sweetgrass Event Center located at 1225 Hwy. 17 North in Mount Pleasant. Proceeds from the event will benefit East Cooper Community Outreach, My Sisters House, and Rotary Charities that include Polio Plus, Happy Feet, and Toys For Tots.

It will be an evening of 1920’s Prohibition-era fun including heavy hors d’oeuvres, open bar, dancing to jazz and swing music with the Charleston Swing Dance Association, games, a grand prize raffle, and a silent auction with themed packages. Tickets for the Speakeasy are $100 per person and will be available online starting August 1st at www.eastcooperspeakeasy.com.

The East Cooper Speakeasy is the major fundraiser that the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club has planned for this year as a way to support local and Rotary International charities. Organizers were very pleased with last year’s inaugural event that raised $18,000 for the named charities. Due to the success, the Club anticipates more guests, more incredible period costumes, and even more tempting auction items this year.
