How much will your pet cost you over a life time? Probably more - a lot more - than you think. The website Totally Money has launched a tool to help understand the lifetime cost of having a pet.
Here's the expected cost for your pet:
- Cat - $19,500 - includes averages on food, litter, toys, grooming, vet visits, kennels
- Large Dog - $25,000
- Small Dog - $29,000
The small dog has a higher average cost since the have a longer life expectancy.
The cheapest pet would be a Goldfish, costing you just $1,180 over their average 7 year lifetime. While the most expensive would be a tortoise at $36,000, since they can live up to 75 years.
