Disneyland Might Start Checking Guests Temperatures When The Parks Reopen!

Disneyland may be temporarily closed, but that doesn't mean they aren't already preparing for a post-COVID-19 world. According to Disney officials, Disneyland could add temperature screenings at security checkpoints in order to meet health guidelines and make visitors feel safe following the coronavirus pandemic. Disney executive chairman Bob Iger already talked about how security precautions at the theme parks in an interview with Barron’s.

Disney is preparing for when the parks re-open that visitors will demand more in order to feel safe. He said,

“Just as we now do bag checks for everybody that goes into our parks, it could be that at some point we add a component of that that takes people’s temperatures, as a for-instance, even if it creates a little bit of hardship, like it takes a little bit longer for people to get in."

Temperature screenings is currently in effect for visitors entering the partially reopened Shanghai Disney resort and other public places in China. Bob Iger is looking at China has been doing as they make their way back to normalcy.

“We’re studying very carefully what China has been trying to do in terms of their return to normalcy. And one of the things that’s obvious is they’ve conscripted a large segment of their population to monitor others in terms of their health. You can’t get on a bus or a subway or a train or enter a high-rise building there and I’m sure this will be the case when their schools reopen — without having your temperature taken.”

Disneyland Shanghai closed in January amid the corona virus pandemic and they opened up the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Disneytown shopping mall on March 9th. There's currently limited capacity and reduced hours, while the Shanghai Disneyland theme park remains closed. The new health and safety measures require visitors to undergo temperature screenings, wear masks, maintain social distancing and present their Shanghai QR health code.

Iger is anticipating for the Disneyland Resort to be the place people want to go to to escape once the pandemic is over. He said,

“One of the things that we’re discussing already is that in order to return to some semblance of normal, people will have to feel comfortable that they’re safe. Some of that could come in the form ultimately of a vaccine, but in the absence of that it could come from basically, more scrutiny, more restrictions.”
