Online Holiday Shopping Like A Pro

It's the most wonderful time of the year...especially for retail stores, banks, and credit card companies.

Online shopping takes skill, patience, and actually, more planning than you think. According to Mental Floss, there are 10 key tips to help you save like a pro while online shopping this holiday season. Some are common sense, others are genius. Here are a few of the money-saving tips I will be trying this year:

  1. Take Advantage of Rebates - There is an app for everything, and there are several for rebates. You have to buy the gift anyways, so why wouldn't you want to earn "free money" for it? Here are a few that you should use while online holiday shopping - Rakuten, Ibotta, Checkout 51, and Shopkick
  2. Fill Your Cart But Don't Check Out Yet - This tip is genius. If you have a full cart but don't check out immediately, most retailers will notice. They will then start sending you emails with discount codes and online coupons for those items. Doing this is like a tease to the online store, and it will save you money.
  3. Check For Price Drops After You Purchase - Nothing is worse than buying something that goes on sale a few days later. But you're not out of luck, most retailers will refund you the markdown. You will usually have to get in touch with a customer service representative, but this is usually worth it for more expensive items. Check back on those items you've purchased to see if you can score some money back.
