Random bullet hits a Lowcountry home with kids inside

VIDEO

While your alarm clock was going off this morning, some neighbors in Berkeley County say they woke up to the sounds of gunshots. Deputies say one bullet went through a Goose Creek woman’s home.

Virginia invited us inside of her house in Samantha Estates. She did not want to go on camera, but showed us the damage.

She says a bullet when through her window, and into the wall bathroom and that her three children were asleep inside when it happened.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report from Virginia. Deputies say they went out to investigate and found gun casings on a street nearby.

We talked to other families living in Samantha Estates and they say they heard guns shots first around 11 p.m. last night and then again sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday.

We learned about the shooting from Representative Sam Rivers. He told ABC News 4 that he has received complaints from his constituents concerned about random gun fire and bullets hitting homes or cars for several months.

Hector Rodriquez who lives near Virginia says things were quiet around Christmas, but he started hearing gunfire again two to three weeks ago.

He’s concerned someone will get hurt. “I am not afraid of it, but certainly I am worried about it like a person or a child could be in jeopardy because people do not take responsibility for what they are doing,” says Rodriquez.

Late Monday afternoon, we talked to Mike Cochran from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office about whether the gun fire is related to crime. He said, "It is not honest people shooting guns in the road what you are getting sometimes is connected to illegal activity and are sending a message."

Cochran says often people will not share information making it more difficult to make arrests.
