What household chore can have a significant impact on the health and longevity of your relationship? The Council of Contemporary Families (CCF) has the answer to that question.
The nonprofit, which studies family dynamics, did research examining a variety of different household tasks — including shopping, laundry, and housecleaning. It turns out that for women, the most important chore to share is the dishes. Women who wash the vast majority of the dishes themselves report more relationship conflict, less relationship satisfaction, and even worse sex, than women with partners who help. Women are happier about sharing dish washing duties than they are about sharing any other household task.
Why the dishes? The lead author of the study think it's because “doing dishes is gross." And, unlike with some other chores, doing dishes well does not lead to compliments. After all, when was the last time anyone said, wow that silverware is so clean and shiny?"
