Sephora Beauty Insider Points Can Be Turned Into Donations For Protestors

Frequent Sephora shoppers will now all about the store's Beauty Insider program. For those not as familiar with Sephora, Beauty Insider is a free rewards program in the makeup chain's United States and Canada stores that lets customers earn points on every purchase made. Eventually, those points can be redeemed for rewards—usually a sample size of some of their most popular products.

In light of recents events—both the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police and the worldwide protests against police brutality that followed—Sephora updated their Beauty Insider program. Now, customers can choose to use their points to make a donation to the National Black Justice Coalition.

If you're a frequent flyer at Sephora and have a bunch of points built up, here's how you can redeem them for the National Black Justice Coalition. All you have to do is head over to Sephora's website, log in to your Beauty Insider account and click on the Rewards Bazaar. Listed among all the other rewards, you'll see a small pink circle in each point bracket—that's the option to donate to the National Black Justice Coalition.

If you have $500 points saved up, you can make a $10 donation. If you have $1,000 points you'll be able to make a $20 and 1,500 points equals a $30 donation. Once you've made your selection, you'll need to add the amount of points you'd like to donate to your cart, and click "checkout." No other purchase is necessary to donate your points.

One Twitter user also pointed out that customers can redeem their points multiple times for multiple amounts if they an excessive amount of points built up.

A spokesperson for Sephora spoke with Insider about their decision to transform their Beauty Insider program in support of the wider Black Lives Matter movement happening in the United States right now. "We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of George Floyd and the pain experienced by African Americans and communities of color across America," the statement said. "We believe unequivocally that Black Lives Matter and we are committed to using our platforms and resources to stand against racism and injustice, to amplify Black voices, and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Black lives."

"With our points-to-dollars donation program, which begins with support of the National Black Justice Coalition, we want to support organizations that provide critical aid in our communities and provide a way for our clients to participate in Sephora's larger giving initiatives, and direct the power and breadth of our community to support their work," the statement continued.

The National Black Justice Coalition isn't the only organization Sephora is supporting at the moment, either, according to the spokesperson. "We are also proud to have given more than $1 million to support organizations in our communities, like National CARES Mentoring Movement, the Center for Urban Families, the NAACP, the National Black Justice Coalition, and the National Black Coalition on Black Civic Participation Black Women's Roundtable, all of which are building up Black communities and leading the fight for racial justice and equity. This is not the beginning of our work and will not be the end. We stand in solidarity with our Black employees, colleagues, friends and the community."
