Josh Groban & Sara Bareilles Perform At The 2018 Tony

I have to be honest...I didn't watch the Tony Awards. I went to see the Best of Broadway at the North Charleston Perfroming Arts Center with my wife one time...and I ask her, "are they gonna sing the whole time!!!?!?!?!?!" Apparently, YES!!!

Soooo...with that being said...I know lots of folks do like I have cobbled together some of the highlights for the 2018 TONY Awards and a list of winners because I am dedicated to making sure you have all the entertainment info you want. (plus I'm pretty good at cutting and pasting) ya go:

It was a big night for “The Band’s Visit” at the 72ndannual Tony Awards. The musical won Best Musical, Best Original Score, and acting awards for its leads, Tony Shaloub and Katrina Lenk

Even though “Mean Girls” went into the evening with 12 nods, they walked away empty-handed. “Spongebob Squarepants” also had 12, but they brought home one in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” fared better. Out of the 10 nods, they ended up with six, including Best Play and a Best Direction of a Play win for John Tiffany. Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane won awards for their work in the play, “Angels in America,” while Laurie Metcalf picked up a trophy for her work in “Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women.”

Highlights of the evening included a performance of “Seasons of Love” from “Rent” by the Margery Stoneman Douglas High School drama department. Their teacher, Melody Herzfeld, was honored with an award for excellence in theater education off-camera and got a shout-out for bravely protecting her students in the Valentine’s Day shooting that killed 17 people.

  • While most winners spoke on the social and political climate of the day, Robert DeNiro got the standing ovation for his remarks about Donald Trump, which were bleeped out by CBS’ sensors. Before introducing Bruce Springsteen, he said, “I just want to say one thing – [freak] Trump. It’s no longer down with Trump. It’s [freak] Trump.” (I censored...he did NOT)
