It was Sunday Morning when Massey was driving on Highway 176 just a few miles from his home in Holly Hill Officials from the Highway Patrol said he went off the road and hit culvert in his Toyota Tacoma.

After refusing the breathalyzer, News 2 is told the Oakbrook Middle School teacher was taken to The Orangeburg County Detention Center where he was found dead Monday morning. The Deputy Coroner said Massey died of internal bleeding from a tear in his abdomen caused by the accident.

So why didn't he receive medical attention for his injuries? The Orangeburg County Administrator, Harold Young, who oversees the Detention Center, says Massey was checked and asked if he needed medical attention. Young says all protocol was followed.

"The initial blood pressure and other checks were taken so from that standpoint it's a matter him being able to tell us what is wrong and how he is feeling. If he is refusing ambulatory care all the way through the system unfortunately that's something impacted his life."
