Charleston County, SC -
The Charleston Police Department joined the Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Tuesday morning and have already taken around 2,100 calls. This comes just months after the sheriff's department investigation into 911 call center.
Charleston will make up around one third of the total call volume. To make up for the increase in calls, officials hired 27 new employees. 17 of those new hires were previous City of Charleston dispatchers.
Charleston Chief of Police, Greg Mullen, says he is relieved that some of the former Charleston dispatchers have joined the staff. He says they have relationships with his officers and know the areas around the city.
